Nissan NV200 Van in Barcelona
Nissan announced during the International Automobile Salon in Geneva (Switzerland) to produce the NV200 van for the European market at the Barcelona. The company plans to start manufacturing this car in late 2009. The NV200 is a vehicle to be produced in several plants in Nissan in the world will be released in Japan in spring 2009 and will reach Europe during the second half of 2009. Later started marketing in China and other markets.
Nissan adapted one of the production lines of the Zone Franca plant to accommodate the new vehicle NV200 to be added to the production of existing models Pathfinder, Navara and Primastar (also marketed under names Renault Traffic and Opel Vivaro). Andy Palmer, vice president of Global Product Planning and Business Unit of light commercial vehicles from Nissan, said that “in a time of difficult economic conditions, we are pleased that the Barcelona factory is able to adapt to changing market and to accommodate this important vehicle.”
Palmer acknowledged that “this first step has not only been possible thanks to the dedication, passion and effort in managing the assembly in Barcelona, but also through the support of unions and the Spanish and Catalan.” Palmer insisted that “we hope that this spirit is maintained to ensure that the plant in Barcelona take the necessary steps to be competitive and get new products to ensure their sustainability.”
The Directorate of Industrial Operations of Nissan in Spain (NSIO) has announced that in order to be competitive and get new products, the Barcelona assembly needs a number of conditions to maintain production capacity, while preserving flexibility.
