With a sleek silhouette, the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is one of the world’s first electric estate cars in the large car class – and already one of the best-looking.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer has a commodious boot that expands even further with the rear seats folded. It also has a predicted long range of over 420 miles, when equipped with the larger of two battery choices.
Rivals for the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer are currently thin on the ground. There are no direct competitors, with only the MG5 EV estate at the lower end and the new BMW i5 Touring at the upper end providing estate car alternatives.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is set to arrive in the UK later this summer. Ordering has already opened at Volkswagen dealers, to help build the order banks ahead of its arrival.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer Match is the launch car, with a price of £52,240 with the 77kWh Pro battery. This is actually a little lower than estimates, and shows how VW is keen to highlight the better value of the new ID.7 range following the initial release of pricey Launch Edition versions.
A larger 86kWh Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer Pro S battery arrives later in the year, as does a sporty new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer GTX.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer has a very elegant appearance that successfully blends load-lugging estate car with sleek and sporty shooting brake style.
The flowing crease along the side of the new Volkswagen ID.7 enhances its stance, and the contrast roof colour, complete with silver side rails, makes it look upmarket and luxurious.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is, at 4961mm long, exactly the same length as the ID.7 fastback. They share the distinctive front end with slim headlights and the front wheels pushed right into the corners.
Optional IQ.Light Matrix LED headlights are available on the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer. These include an illuminated horizontal LED strop either side of the Volkswagen logo – which is also illuminated.
At the rear, the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is available with 3D LED rear lights, complete with dynamic brake lights and indicators. Higher-spec versions have an illuminated VW logo at the rear too.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer comes with aero-look 19-inch or 20-inch alloys, depending on spec. An eye-catching 21-inch wheel arrives later.
Inside, the new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer shares the same cabin as the new Volkswagen ID.7 fastback. This uses a 15.0-inch freestanding touchscreen running the latest VW MIB4 software. Menus are cleaner and easier to use, and the sliders at the bottom of the screen for climate control are now illuminated.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer’s IDA voice assistant has a far broader scope of functionality than many such systems – including weather, the flights status of commercial airlines and even news updates: simply say, “what is the latest news?”.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer also has ChatGPT integrated into its IDA voice assistant. Meanwhile, an optional head-up display now includes visuals from smartphones connected via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer’s estate car boot measures up to 605 litres with the rear seats up. With them folded, it has up to 1714 litres of space. With the seats up, the load space measures more than a metre long, expanding to almost two metres with them folded. There’s exactly a metre of space between the rear wheelarches, too.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is also available with an optional panoramic glass roof. It can turn from transparent to opaque at the press of a button, thanks to a clever polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) layer built into the glass.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer launches with a 286PS electric motor, driving the rear wheels. It will be powered by a 77kWh Pro battery. Even this version has an impressive forecast range of 374 miles.
A Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer with a larger 86kWh Pro S battery arrives later. This is forecast to have a really impressive 425-mile range.
The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer Pro battery offers 175kW DC rapid charging speeds. The Pro S battery sees this increase to 200kW – meaning both will charge from 10% to 80% in around 28 minutes.

The new Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer has a choice of two batteries, either 77kWh or 86kWh. The latter can DC rapid-charge at speeds of up to 200kWh.
